The Rare Pear

It was a pleasant cool day to be seated alfresco at The Rare Pear. It may not be a cafe with views being right next to busy Logan road but on a sunday, the roads were nicely quiet. We were greeted and served by an energetic and polite waiter who brought us bottled water promptly and both breakfast and lunch menus obligingly upon request.

It was just touching 12 noon when we arrived and the cabinet was brimming with baked goods such as salads, quiches, cottage pies, ham & salad wrap, ham or silverside sandwiches, scones, muffins, cupcakes, tortes, berry frangipane tarts etc.

Miss food hunter had a serving of Wombok & Cashew salad with Sourdough toasts & a Capp while, Mr food hunter opted for the breakkie option of Field Mushrooms with Fetta on a Walnut Sourdough Rye.

The Capp by Di Bella was richly frothy-good. The shredded Wombok salad was dressed in a classic basil pesto and was generous in roasted cashews, sprouts, snow peas, sweet tomatoes and purple onions. The crusty sourdough toasts were toasted to somwhat of a crunch which was ideal for Miss food hunter.

Mr food hunter's dish came with a generous serve of Field Mushrooms which were lightly cooked in garlic and butter.  The crumbled Fetta was a nice addition to the mushrooms, which gave it that needed salt element, doesn't hurt that Mr food hunter loves his cheese too!  The walnut bread worked and had a nice drizzle of herbed oil.  The only negative was the extra order of sausages, which were akin to sausages with artificial filler and fat. Eeek!
The Rare Pear is probably considered a gem in the Holland Park area. It was indeed very very busy particularly as it was a sunday and there is certainly much to like about this cafe that offers simple, fresh and well-cooked light to hearty meals!
