Lunch was a little haphazard yesterday....We had the lunch specials at Thai River which was just next door to Chumley Warner's. While we were eating, we couldn't help but peek continuously (stared shamelessly rather) through the tinted windows at those unwrapped paper packages of battered fish & chips with gravy and mushy peas...That's not to say that our Thai meal was bad. In fact we were delightfully surprised, the Red Curry and Tom Yum (all ~ $8) were some of the better tasting ones around...sorry no pics!

Pig & Whistle Indooroopilly
Okay, Pig & Whistle (PW) was a rather impromptu decision. For all these years shopping and dining at Indooroo Westfield, we never stepped one foot in PW. Mr food hunter had a cold beer craving so Pub grub it was! But the sudden downpour this afternoon prompted us to seek shelter from undercover parking and so we quickly decided on PW.
PW's Fleet Street restaurant was fully packed (we noticed many were there for the Devonshire Tea) and so we proceeded to the bar where we can order from behind the counter and off a similar food menu.
We had a Kronenbourg 1664 on tap and a Jacqueline's Ridge Sauv blanc. The wine list was surprisingly long for a pub! Miss food hunter satisfied her bread craving with some turkish bread and dips while Mr food hunter had the hearty London Mixed Grill.
The Marlborough Sauv blanc had good nose but the palate didn't deliver as the bottle must have been opened for sometime. The turkish fingers were lightly warmed through and served with a duo of dips; one a corriander nut pesto and the other was hummus with a strong tahini background.
The London Mixed Grill consisted of a skewer of rump, lamb cutlet, home-made sausage, bacon, buttered peas, mash and onion gravy. The highlight was the thick & juicy home-made sausage that was likely a product of lamb, herbs and one or two unfortunate bits of cartillage....rrrustic!! The remaining meats were abit tough but nicely marinated, the bacon had a drizzle of honey and the onions were sweet and caramelized. Overall, a decent pub fare!
When we entered PW's bar, it was near 1-ish pm and it was pretty quiet (& relaxing) but not long after, service picked up and the atmosphere of a normal sunday pub afternoon was revived!
