Kerith Brook Cafe

After some fresh-produce & gift shopping at the Kelvin Grove markets on a Saturday mid-morning, and in our tummies- a cuppa Bunker cappuccino, Bunker Iced 70% chocolate milk (do give this bittersweet drink a go!) and some hand-made steamed buns, we built up an appetite, ready for an early lunch. We headed towards West End, to Atomica supposedly, but passed by Kerith Brook Cafe which had a couple of outdoor seatings, perfect for accommodating our lil' dog!

The menu was kept simple and concise with the usual suspects of eggs benedict, french toasts, open cheese melts, BLT etc. The King's Burger had an unusual twist which tempted Mr food hunter at first but the Zucchini, Potato & Corn Fritters with Bacon was equally enticing and the latter was the final pick.

The fritters consisted of mostly potato and with the flour it became more of a doughy-er version
rather than a light zucchini-filled one. The bacon was cooked well and tasted surprsingly alright with a side of an Asian type cocktail sauce. Overall, it was satisfying enough!

Miss food hunter's gourmet salad of Beetroot, Fetta, Walnuts, mixed leaves and cherry tomatoes in a Raspberry dressing was fresh & tangy, having just a touch of sweetness. The walnuts were a good addition to an otherwise rather monotonous tasting salad, stemming from the overpowering taste of tender beetroot chunks and lashings of raspberry dressing. The fetta was just average and there was a generous serve of it. The salad needed something else though...maybe purple onions, slices of avocado or grilled shrooms even ?? An extra order of thick toasts really helped break the sweet-acidity. Do add chicken for an extra $2.

The Mixed Berry Frappe was refreshing and some honey was added for sweetness, just right on a warm day!

The service from a team of Korean waitstaff (maybe owners themselves) were prompt and friendly, the presentations were delightful, the menu items are priced reasonably and the cafe's interior is colourfuly decorated and fitted, absolutely ideal for a relaxing long read & a piece of their sweet bake, free Wi-Fi too! Unlike other book cafes, here it is Bring Your Own Read ; )
