The Ponycat Cafe

What a great addition to the cafe/ restaurant scene along Brunswick street! Au Cirque is probably the only prominent breakfast brunch place along this stretch and we can see that the Ponycat is fast becoming a strong contender! We arrrived slightly before 12noon on a windy saturday and service was busy busy but thankfully, a friendly waitress came to us and told us we could have the high table indoor soon as she cleared it and that she'd take our orders.

Blackboard Lunch Menu

The Cappuccino was splendid, rich with creamy foam and the ratio of a third espresso to milk & foam was exact. Coffee by Grinders. The Mixed Berry Smoothie was a hit with Mr food hunter as it wasn't overly thick in honey nor yoghurt...perfect consistency and plenty of blended fruit.

The Spanish Meatballs in Caponata served with crusty bread for mopping was delicious. There were eggplants, olives, tomatoes, capers and parsley which formed the Caponata that tasted rather pickle-ly.  The meatballs were moist and mixed with chopped parsley but really relied on the flavours from the tomato sauce.  A very homely and warming dish, suitable on a chilly day like this!

Miss food hunter ordered from the All-day Breakfast menu- Roast Tomato & Fetta on Onion Rye Bread with a Blasamic glaze. What a simple yet great dish with every component working wonders on the plate. The roast tomatoes were sweet and plump, the fetta had just the right amount of saltiness to complement the savoury onion rye toasts & sticky balsamic.

The Ponycat  for us is one of those cafes that we will visit regularly. We love the energetic vibe of the place, the fun graffiti art, the polite staff, efficient service and Yes, the blackboard menu does change. We can't wait to return for thair staples and more.. ;)

  1. Hi Food Hunters...!

I wasn't sure where to write this but was wondering if you are headed to the Sake dinner late July?

BTW congrats on getting into Ponycat. I tried with no luck :(.
