The Nook off Hawthorne

A last minute decision to catch a movie at the Hawthorne cineplex left us with only a few choices where to eat.  The Nook off Hawthorne is directly attached to the cinema and was the perfect option for us as we were in a bit of a rush.  The Nook is somewhat hidden behind the cinema in a courtyard.  Although the space is moderate for a cafe, there is minimal seating so best plan for takeaway during busier times. Instead of the popcorn & candy bar, why not grab a decent cuppa coffee or a milkshake or one of Nook's delicious home-baked treats like the carrot cake or apple pecan to take in with ya??

The blackboard menu of mouth-watering light offerings...

Mr food hunter opted for the Toasted Cuban Pickled Pork sandwich which came on turkish bread and he also ordered a side of chips as well.  The pork sandwich came with a nice jalapeno relish that was a perfect contrast to the pickled pork and swiss cheese.  The turkish was toasted well but just a touch too much oil which left a greasy feel, the chips were also a bit greasy but did look appetizing the way they were cut.  I wouldnt recommend the chips but the sandwiches are a definite go!

Miss food hunter's mushrooms with feta & thyme on sourdough rye was bliss! As a lover of shrooms on toast, this Miss food hunter can say confidently is one of the best! The mushrooms were nicely seasoned and the distinct fragrance of butter saturated in them was Yum! The right amount of crumbled fetta & thyme with generous rocket and sweet balsamic on grilled wheaty sourdough was just perfect. Miss food hunter wishes for more!

To accompany Miss food hunter's meal in the warmth of the heat was quite a serious Iced cool Latte! ;P

Nook is great for mothers and their kids/babies for the fact that they made up most of the patrons we saw that day! Hee! Nook is also great for unwinding with a book or paper in hand as the environment is rather tranquil, just be certain that it isn't too much of a warm humid day as there is no A/C here. The dishes are not of a generous serve so they may not be satisfactory for those after heartier meals but are most suitable for at least majority of ladies. The Boston beans seem like a hit among other reviewers and so are their sweet treats which we will certainly be back for! Let's just plan for another movie soon at Hawthorne, shall we??
